Projects in XLIFF Translator

The workflow of XLIFF Translator is built on the “project” model.

Project Folders

Projects are contained in folders. The project folder contains:

  • Copies of the original files;
  • .xliff files generated from the original files;
  • ‘Skeleton’ files used to produce the translated files; and
  • A ‘target’ folder in which the translation files are generated

Creating a Project

From the File menu, select New Project. The New Project wizard appears.

On the first page of the wizard, select the folder for the project.

wizard_2

On the second page of the wizard, select the files you want to translate.

wizard_3

On the third and final page of the wizard, select the source and target languages from the drop-down lists.

Opening a Project

From the File menu, click Open, then select Open Project. The Browse Folder dialog appears. Select the folder where your project is located (the location of the .xliff files).

Working with Files

When you have a project open in XLIFF Translator, the list of xliff files is shown on the left. Click on one of these files to display the segments in the boxes to the right. Information about the file will appear below.

You can also open an individual file. From the File menu, click Open, then select Open File. The folder containing that file will be opened as the project, and the file you chose will be selected in the file view.

Generating Project Output

At any point in the translation process, you can generate the target for the current file, or for all files in the project. From the Projects menu, select Generate File. The target for the currently selected .xliff file will be generated. Select Generate Project to generate the targets for all .xliff files in the project.
