New in version 1.5.3 (released 2009/12/16)

Felix version 1.5.3 includes several bug fixes and feature enhancements, especially relating to remote memories and adding glossary terms. See below for details.

Improved Support for Remote Memories

  • Bug fix: Editing a remote translation/glossary entry from Felix added a new one, instead of editing the existing one
  • Bug fix: Mixed half/full-width glossary entries were not always found in Memory Serves
  • Bug fix: Name showed up as [New] in Memory/Glossary Manager
  • Bug fix: Name showed up as [New] for concordance searches
  • Bug fix: Created by/modified by information was not preserved in remote entries
  • Bug fix: The source and target languages were not shown in the Memory/Glossary Manager dialog boxes

Easier to Add Glossary Entries

  • If the a glossary text box is empty, the selection on the left is used as the source/translation
  • Bug fix: F3 button brought up blank Add Glossary dialog when reviewing translations or viewing a query with no translation candidates
  • Bug fix:Text was not preserved between source and HTML tabs
  • Bug fix: When editing advanced properties in the Add Glossary dialog, it is not necessary to enter a source or translation
  • The Advanced dialog for glossary entries has a “Make defaults” checkbox, to set default values for all glossary entries added
  • Bug fix: If all text was removed from the glossary text boxes, the formatting was retained
  • The “Add to” list box setting is preserved after closing the Add Glossary dialog box.

Improvements to Search Window

  • Keyboard shortcuts: New Search (Alt+N), Search Page (Alt+S), Replace Page (Alt+R), and Show/Hide Help (Alt+H)
  • When all filters are deleted, does not show all records
  • The number of records changed is displayed after the Replace All button is pressed.

Other Felix Improvements

  • Bug fix: Switching views in glossary windows did not always cause new search to be conducted
  • Bug fix: Glossary window background color preferences were not reflected in saved preference files
  • Bug fix: Match coloring did not use CSS preferences for the word-based algorithm
  • Bug fix: Needed to run as admin to use “Check for updates” feature from Windows Vista/Windows 7

Improvements to the Microsoft Office Interfaces

Excel:

  • Maximum cell length for adding glossaries/TMs increased from 1,024 to 32,767 characters

Word:

  • Common abbreviations are no longer recognized as ends of sentences (“Mr.”, “Mrs.”, “Ms.”, “Dr.”, “e.g.”, and “i.e.”)
  • Bug fix: Canceling Felix Preferences dialog in Word still changed settings

New in version 1.5.2 (released 2009/11/24)

Felix version 1.5.2 features several small improvements to the user interface, and improved support for PowerPoint.

New in version 1.4.3 (released 2009/01/15)

Felix version 1.4.3 adds several new features requested by users, and fixes some long-stanging bugs as well as others introduced in recent releases. It is recommended that you upgrade to this version if the new features listed below interest you, or if you’ve been bothered by the bugs fixed in this release.

Felix

  • Bug fix: When you edited a record, the match text sometimes got duplicated
  • Bug fix: On the review translation view, register entries link didn't work
  • Users can now customize user names
  • Each translation record (or translation unit: TU) has a creator and modified-by field
  • When you've just added a translation, adding a translation again corrects the existing translation, instead of adding a new record.
  • The Felix templating engine now has a looping construct. See Appendix B: Customizing Felix Templates for details
  • Added template files for most of the data views in Felix

  • Press CTRL + ALT + F9 to toggle shortcuts between enabled and disabled. Each time the shortcuts are toggled, there is a system beep. Any other bindings to CTRL + ALT + F9 are preserved.
  • CONTROL+ALT+↑ corrects the current translation, even in translation mode
  • Bug fix: Word would sometimes stay in memory after quitting
  • Translation history is now disabled by default

Excel

  • Bug fix: Saving as excel gave "wrong format" error

New in version 1.4.2 (released 2008/12/29)

Felix version 1.4.2 includes several useful features requested by Felix users. This version is also meant to fix some library issues that were noted on some older Windows configurations. It is recommended that you upgrade if you have interest in the added features in this version.

Felix

  • New feature: Save preferences as profiles. To save or load preferences, select Tools >> Load/Save Preferences. Information saved:
    • Translation memory files
    • Glossary files
    • User preferences
    • Window size and position
    • Text zoom level

    When you load a profile, all the memories and glossaries you had loaded when you saved the profile are loaded.

  • Translation memory and glossary files now have separate extensions by default. Translation memory files have the extension ".ftm", and glossary files have the extension ".fgloss". Files with the old ".xml" extension can still be used.
  • New feature: There is now a Zoom dialog box to control the zoom level of the memory and glossary windows. To display the Zoom dialog, select View >> Zoom... from the menu.
  • Pressing F6 toggles between the match and concordance views in the memory window.
  • Bug fix: An extra empty memory/glossary was created when the "Load memories/glossaries on startup" preference was enabled.
  • The automatic number placement feature now supports double-byte numbers.
  • The zoom level is saved when exiting and starting Felix.

PowerPoint Interface

  • Bug fix: The toolbar was not visible by default the first time PowerPoint was started.

New in version 1.4.1 (released 2008/12/19)

Felix version 1.4.1 is a minor update. It adds error logging and reporting features. Users can now send a report if a program error occurs, making it possible to quickly pinpoint and fix the problem.

Felix is a new and improved version of the TransAssist translation memory program. It has all the features of TransAssist and more. Now it is easier than ever to incorporate a powerfull translation memory system into your translation workflow. Below is a list of the main improvements in Felix.

Felix

  • Searching is now much faster than in previous versions. Use memories consisting of hundreds of thousands of entries without significant slowdowns.
  • Specify the color of the query, source and translation in the Memory window.

  • There is an option to automatically skip over number-only segments (useful when translating files with tables of figures).
  • Press the Shift key while pressing any of the keyboard shortcuts to look up/retrieve segments as plain text (for glossary matches, they are also retrieved as all lower case).
  • Specify what level of formatting you wish to recognize (e.g. ignore the Font Face property if you are using styles to determine font).

  • Select which characters to use as "stop" characters (end-of-sentence markers)

The Excel Interface

  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Auto-translate the current selection, worksheet, or workbook (all 100% matches are auto-translated).

  • Text boxes are translated in the order they appear on the screen.

In addition, there have been several bug fixes. These include a fatal error with MS PowerPoint 2007, and some problems parsing TMX files.
